The Year 4 and 5 field trip is to the Sayers Croft Field Study Centre.
Sayers Croft Field Study Centre is set within 52 acres of self-contained Wealdon landscape. Situated near the village of Ewhurst in Surrey, it is run by Westminster City Council as a centre for environmental and outdoor education, giving opportunities for schools to undertake areas of the National Curriculum that would otherwise be difficult to complete in an inner city setting.
During their three day trip to the centre, pupils complete a range of science, history and geography based activities, all within the grounds of the site and supervised and run by qualified members of the Centre staff.
Evening activities include a range of follow-up activities based on fieldwork, as well as other indoor and outdoor (weather permitting) activities that the centre can offer. These are both of a structured and unstructured nature, but are always supervised.
Pupils sleep in dormitory accommodation during their stay: the whole party including staff contained within one chalet. Girls sleep in a separate dormitory room to the boys. The accompanying staff also sleep in adjoining rooms, in the same chalet. The self-contained chalet contains washing and toilet facilities, as well as a communal area that is for the sole use of Hampden Gurney pupils.
The Centre offers a menu with a range of options for breakfast, lunch and evening meals. With foreknowledge, Sayers Croft can also cater for children who do not eat particular foods. This includes those who do not eat meat at all, as well as those that may only not eat a particular type of meat (i.e. beef, pork, lamb or fish). Vegetarians can also be catered for, as can vegetarians who do not eat fish, and vegans.
More information about the centre and the site can be found on the Sayers Croft website.
Full details of the school's policy on charging for educational excursions can be found in the Resources section of the school website.
